Since 2017, the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Canada, the Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation, and participating councils of the Science Granting Councils Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa (SGCI) have been partnering to implement the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chairs Initiative (ORTARChI).
This virtual event will launch the first ten (10) host institutions and research chairholders across seven (7) countries in sub-Saharan Africa, in recognition of excellence, individual leadership and talent, and the commitment of universities to supporting high-quality research. This will be followed by a high-level panel discussion on Investing in Research and Innovation Excellence in Africa. This launch marks the 103rd birthday of Oliver Tambo.
