Validation of Event-based Surveillance training modules for African Union Member states

WHAT: To strengthen the surveillance systems in Africa, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed an Event Based surveillance (EBS) Framework as a practical guidance document, and complement to the the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa.

Africa CDC is collaborating with the SACIDS Foundation for One Health (SACIDS) based at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania on a programme targeting to enhance adaptation of the framework. We have developed EBS training modules for all levels of the health system, i.e. community, health facility, district/intermediary and national levels. The modules can be customized according to specific-country needs/preferences. The final version of the modules will be made available in the major AU languages for wide adaptation by the Member States.

To improve their presentation and ensuring relevancy to as many cultural disparity communities as possible in the AU MS, the subject matter experts from the Eastern, Central, Western, Northern and Southern Regional Collaborating Centres (RCC) of Africa CDC will validate the modules.

WHEN: 7-9 June 2021
